In the Arms

My brother wrote this song after the news of Amendment One passing in NC. Both of us have struggled with how to share this piece of our story and after much deliberation we feel that now more than ever it is important to share this…

In the Arms,
by Justin Harvey

you loved another woman and you shared your life with her
but i was just a child, and you begged and pled with my mother
as the cancer took your body, to keep your secret safe
i stood by your bedside and i wept and i prayed

you are in the arms of perfect love
you are in the arms of such a true and perfect love

well things down here they really haven’t changed
your lover she lives on and the hatred still remains
and every time i hear them shout about the bible and the law
all i see is that weeping child standing next to your death bed

;

I remember my sister and I came to visit at your home
and we danced in your living room oblivious to what you had not shown
well maybe one day we’ll live in a world that would have loved you well
but until then I’ll keep dancing and singing and I’ll storm the gates of hell

until we are in the arms of perfect love
we’ll be in the arms of such a true and perfect love
