Lessons from my Daughter

And so the cup overflows
The puddles line the hallway
Hidden from the truth
Ashamed, embarrassed, confused

A hint of knowing
The silent confession
Motives unknown, reasoning has failed
Yet there can be no denying
none

The stain is there
The water drips down, down, down

No words could do justice
No explanation suffice
All that’s needed is patience
and a willingness to laugh gently
For who could have seen this coming
Who could have known

No, nothing would keep me from loving you

Assurance of pardon
Gifted with grace
Released from the prison
of self inflicted shame
Fly away, fly away, fly
